1. Provando roupas em uma loja
Section titled “1. Provando roupas em uma loja”- Roupas: shirt, T-shirt, skirt, dress, jacket, sweater (suéter), wool (lã), pants, jeans, socks, shoes.
- Sempre no plural: pants, jeans, socks, shoes; use a pair of para falar de uma peça. No inglês britânico, pants é roupa íntima; usa-se trousers (calças).
- this / that / these / those: this, these: perto; that, those: longe; this, that: singular; these, those: plural.
- here / there: localização; here: perto do falante; there: longe.
- too + adjetivo: quantidade excessiva.
- Pedindo opinião: What about…? · How about…? · What do you think? (resposta: I think it’s nice.)
- Ex.: I have a new pair of pants. I really like those shoes over there.
- Ex.: This dress is too big. These pants are too small.
- Diálogo:
- Can I try these on?
- What about this skirt? · How about these shoes? · What do you think?

2. Descrevendo o que alguém está usando
Section titled “2. Descrevendo o que alguém está usando”Objetivo: perguntar e responder sobre roupas.
- Cores: blue, black, white, pink, green, brown, purple, yellow.
- Presente contínuo: ações em andamento, situações temporárias ou planos futuros já organizados (equivale ao gerúndio).
- Formação:
- regra geral: verbo + ing;
- termina em e: tira o e e acrescenta ing;
- termina em consoante-vogal-consoante: duplica a última consoante + ing;
- termina em ie: troca por ying.
- Stative verbs (verbos de estado): em geral não são usados no presente contínuo.
- Tarefa final: descrevendo a roupa de alguém.
3. Falando com um vendedor
Section titled “3. Falando com um vendedor”Objetivo: encontrar roupas e falar com um vendedor.
- Perguntar preço: How much is it? · How much do they cost?
- Dar preço: It’s / It costs · They cost.
- Dólares: só notas: dollars ($14.00: fourteen dollars). Com centavos: forma longa fourteen dollars and sixty-five cents; forma curta fourteen sixty-five.
- Nota cultural: no Reino Unido, a moeda é pounds e pence.
- Tamanho: small (S), medium (M), large (L): What size are you? I’m a medium.
- Material: cotton (algodão), wool (lã), polyester: What’s it made of?
- Origem: Where’s it from? — Made in Italy.
- Ex.: How much is this? It’s $89.99. · How much do they cost? They cost $86.45.
- Diálogo:
- Can I help you? — Yes, I’m looking for a sweater.
- What size are you? — I’m a medium.
- What’s it made of? — It’s 100% wool.
- Tarefa final: falando com um vendedor.
4. Falando sobre onde você faz compras
Section titled “4. Falando sobre onde você faz compras”Objetivo: dizer onde gosta de fazer compras.
- Tipos de loja: shop, department store, mall (prédio ou área coberta com várias lojas e restaurantes), online store, shoe store, clothing store.
- Demonstrativos sem substantivo: this, that, these, those; this e that podem ser seguidos de one.
- That: também dá opinião sobre uma situação: That’s great! · That’s too bad. · That’s stupid!
- Advérbios de frequência: always, never: depois do to be, antes dos demais verbos.
- Intensificadores: really (antes de verbo), very (antes de adjetivo), so (ênfase).
- Localização: here (perto), there (longe); over dá ênfase: over here / over there.
- Ex.: How about these? · I like this one. · That one is too expensive.
- Ex.: Their prices are never cheap. Department stores always have sales.
- Ex.: I really like shopping in the mall. Small shops are very expensive. This shirt is so cool.
- Ex.: The clothing store is over there. Come over here.
